The Town Clerk's office is considered the center of town government. The office is responsible for recording activities of the town government and is the central place in which vital documents like, death; Birth and marriage certificates are filed.

Various licenses are issued through the Town Clerk's office including dog licenses, hunting/fishing licenses and marriage licenses. Bingo and Games of Chance licenses and Fire work Permits are also issued through this office.

Minutes of the Town Board are prepared by the Town Clerk and filed permanently in the Town Clerk's Office. All ordinances and local laws adopted by the Town Board are also on file in the Town Clerk's office.

Dog Enumeration Notice

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE THAT the Town of Covert will be conducting a dog enumeration (census) beginning July 5, 2022. As required by Article 7 of New York State Agriculture and Markets Law, any dog 4 months of age and older must be licensed in the Town where they are being harbored. This license is renewed annually. All dog(s) within the Town of Covert should be licensed at the Covert Town Clerk's Office (8469 S Main St, Interlaken) or remitted by mail to PO Box 265, Interlaken, NY 14847 and include the following:

Dog License Application completely filled in

Current Rabies certification from the veterinarian

Spay or neuter certificate (or signed Affidavit of Spay/Neuter)

Check payable to Covert Town Clerk (cash accepted in person/call for credit*) *extra fee for credit cards will apply

The fees prior to enumeration per dog are as follows:

Neutered/Spayed $11.00

Unneutered/Unspayed $23.00

Once the enumeration begins, an additional enumeration fee of $20.00 for any unlicensed dog will be charged.

State Registration of Birth, Death and Marriage information began in the early 1880s. By the 1890s most events were being recorded. Births and deaths are recorded in the town/city/village where they occurred. Marriages could be recorded in any location within the state.

Application for Genealogical Services

The Town of Covert's Veterans Memorial situated in front of the Covert Municipal Building, formerly home to the American Legion, was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011. The ceremony began with a parade featuring the South Seneca Elementary School Band and the VFW Color Guards marching from the Elementary School to the Town Municipal Building. Senator Mike Nozzolio spoke as part of the dedication honoring our country's veterans. Patriotic music and taps were performed by the SSCS Elementary Band.
